A Q&A With the VP of Exploration
This month we have a Q&A with Blue Star Vice President of Exploration Darren Lindsay. Darren is a registered professional geoscientist with over 25 years of experience in mineral exploration across four continents with a focus on orogenic gold systems. And he is very experienced working in Nunavut.
Blue Star recently added to the land positions. Why is this significant?
It really turns Blue Star into a significant regional exploration player from a single asset owner in the underexplored High Lake Greenstone belt.
What do you like about Nunavut from a geologic perspective?
Gold projects in Nunavut are both historically well known (Yellowknife Greenstone Belt, NT) and currently well known (Hope Bay Greenstone Belt) for significant multi-million-ounce gold deposits. Many of these current mines and advanced development projects were discovered almost 20 years prior to the Ulu discovery, giving them a bit of a head start – this bodes well for the underexplored High Lake Greenstone belt.
There is potential for resource growth in the immediate vicinity of the known resources and for new discoveries within the region. For me and the team, this is an exciting place to be working!
Tell us about Blue Star’s Exploration Team
The geology team is young and eager made up of a strong technical lead (Jaida Lamming) with experience in these mineral systems, strong data management and a Geologic Information System leader (Jonathan Gilbey) with support from recent graduates. We have a very well-established advisor who happened to be the individual who discovered our main asset, Eugene Flood, and myself. I started in the industry with Eugene Flood hiring me for the then BHP Hope Bay Project as a student. Since then, I have grown to run small and very large exploration programs in a number of different greenstone belts including belts in Nunavut.
When do you get back up to Nunavut?
The 2022 exploration program is in the initial review and planning stage with timing for execution anticipated to start with the camp opening in mid-May, drilling in mid-June and additional field activities in mid-July, 2022.
